Kattre's Korner
Learning together. Growing together.
Today the kinders visited Westview today to get a tour of the building, as well as experience what lunch will be like next year. Below are some pictures of the tour and our kiddos at lunch. Today in science, we started talking about bridges and structures. We used marshmallows and toothpicks to build our own structures. Unfortunately, with the warmth of the day, came soft and smashed marshmallows. The kids did their best to try to accommodate the mallows, but we ended up trashing the project before we could finish. They seemed to have fun and did a great job of problem solving! Eating marshmallows at the end was the best part! :)

As I told a lot of you moms at the Tea Party, we've been talking about the lifecycle of a butterfly. We've been watching time-lapsed videos on Youtube of the caterpillar shedding its skin and turning into a chrysalis. Then we watched the butterfly come out of the chrysalis. The kids seemed to gain a solid understanding of the order of the lifecycle, which set us up for our next lesson in science. At the very end of April, we got a five caterpillars delivered to us in a cup and we started to write about what we noticed. We put all of these observations and the lifecycle process in a little observation journal. Below are some pictures of the caterpillars when we first got them. I can't emphasize enough how fast this all happened. Even just over the first weekend we had them, they nearly doubled in size. Life is such a wonderful gift and watching these five and six year olds be amazed by things in it makes my job the best that there is.
A little side story, one of the caterpillars fell down just as it made it's chrysalis. Since it was connected to some webbing, I took a safety pin, wound up some of the webbing, and attached it (safely) to the lid. I wasn't sure if he'd make it, but he was actually the first butterfly to emerge! Sad news is that one other chrysalis didn't fully form so he died. :( I guess that's life. Enjoy some pictures and a video of our very own caterpillars coming out of their chrysalises and becoming beautiful butterflies! Here is another video of us letting our butterflies go, today! So cute! Worth the watch!! First of all, thank you so much for taking the time from your busy schedules to take part in our little celebration. The kids don't know just yet how lucky they are to have such strong, caring, supportive mommas in their lives. We hope you enjoyed your special day spent with us, along with your gifts. The kids worked so hard on them! Enjoy some pictures from the day and feel free to save any pictures to your computer or phone and print them out to help cherish this memory.
As I'm sure you've already noticed, the kids brought home some slime a couple weeks ago. Here are some pictures of the slime-making process, along with the kids practicing making shape patterns with the slime after our math lesson that day. A special thank you to Jayda Hendricks for the supplies, and for her mom, Deb Hendricks, for her time and help with making it. I'm hoping it didn't make too much of a mess at home, but sometimes memories come at the cost of a mess or two! ;) I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to everyone for making Teacher Appreciation Week so wonderful. The PTO did an amazing job of decorating the hallways and staff lounge to make each day extra special. Thank you to all the parents who took the time to send flowers, cards, and treats with their children all week. Thankfully, I have such a sweet group of kids, that I feel loved and appreciated every day, no matter what week it is. I am so grateful for a supportive and caring group of parents and PTO members to show love.
